SHINE Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sumitomo Corporation of Americas to explore the distribution of fusion-based products in Japan and other Asian markets.

The Janesville, Wisconsin-based fusion technology firm aims to expand its international reach, with Sumitomo set to evaluate market potential and, if feasible, serve as a regional sales agent.

The agreement will focus on establishing supply chains for SHINE’s core offerings, including medical isotopes like lutetium-177 and molybdenum-99, neutron imaging systems, and advanced materials testing solutions. The companies also plan to assess regulatory and logistical frameworks needed to transport radioisotopes across borders.

“This strategic partnership with SCOA opens vital channels to bring our fusion-based technologies to Asian markets,” said Greg Piefer, founder and CEO of SHINE. “Combining their deep market knowledge and established distribution networks with our innovative production methods strengthens international supply chains for nuclear medicine, neutron imaging, and irradiation services while advancing our long-term vision of harnessing fusion to solve humanity's most pressing energy challenges.”

SHINE’s lutetium-177, used in targeted cancer therapies, has already seen commercial uptake. The company also supplies neutron imaging services for non-destructive testing across sectors such as aerospace and defense.

Shinichi “Sandro” Hasegawa, general manager of energy innovation initiative Americas at Sumitomo Corporation of Americas, said the collaboration could help expand access to advanced technologies across industries. “By combining our extensive market reach and logistics capabilities with SHINE’s groundbreaking fusion technology, we can strengthen supply chains across multiple industries and contribute to a cleaner energy future across Asia,” he said.

If the market evaluation proves successful, SCOA will take on an official sales role for SHINE in select Asian territories. The agreement supports SHINE’s broader strategy to commercialize fusion applications across healthcare and industry while laying groundwork for future energy projects.
