Five Minutes in Healthcare - Matthew Dedman

Matthew Dedman
Five Minutes in Healthcare is where I discuss current events with some of the industry's most influential leaders.

Today I am joined by Matthew Dedman, the head of the CT business at Siemens Healthineers North America, for a big picture chat about the rise of photon counting CT (PCCT) and its future impact in radiology. Those of you who attended RSNA 2024 will recall that Siemens unveiled a full line up of photon-counting systems at the show.

It's a sometimes complex topic, but Matthew explains things in a way that makes it easier to understand. We talk about emerging applications for the technology, as well as the principles behind PCCT vs. conventional CT and the long road from R&D to clinical availability. When this interview is over, you will have a better understanding of why Siemens Healthineers expects every CT scanner to eventually become a PCCT scanner.

Photon counting CT interview

March 26, 2025 01:38

This seems to be potentially revolutionary, like the change to multi slice CT.

I'd be interested to know the general specifications for photon counting CT detection vs conventional Energy Integrating detectors in time and dose and contrast-to-noise. While all this technical stuff might be confusing to the general audience, it would tell us, is this a Big Deal or not?
