Bracco has inaugurated a new facility near Geneva, Switzerland, tripling its production of a specialized ultrasound contrast agent based on microbubbles. The 80 million euro ($86 million) investment, called Hexagon, marks a significant expansion for the Milan-based medical imaging company.

When fully operational, the new facility will increase the global supply of Bracco’s contrast agent for contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), a radiation-free diagnostic method that enhances the visibility of blood vessels and organs, enabling real-time and precise imaging.

Diana Bracco, president and CEO of Bracco Group, emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to innovation and global market leadership. "As a family company, it is both an achievement and a great source of pride to compete globally in such a technologically advanced sector,” she said.

The company's roots in Switzerland, which include a long-standing collaboration with the Swiss Battelle Institute and the Plan-les-Ouates manufacturing site, were highlighted in a statement. Bracco invests roughly 12.5 million Swiss francs annually into research and development at its Geneva center, which employs over 45 scientists.

Fulvio Renoldi Bracco, vice chairman and CEO of Bracco Imaging, explained that this expansion would support Bracco’s goal of becoming a global leader in CEUS. “Our microbubble platform is a more convenient, cutting-edge medical technology that adds value to diagnostic imaging,” he noted, adding that CEUS complements traditional modalities like X-ray, MR, and PET/SPECT, enhancing healthcare systems’ diagnostic capabilities.

Bracco’s expansion in CEUS production reflects its broader global growth strategy, underscoring its position as a leader in diagnostic imaging across over 100 countries, with 88% of its revenue from international markets.
