NextGen Healthcare announced on Tuesday that its NextGen Enterprise EHR for the ambulatory setting is validated as a live implementer of the Carequality Framework.

“Going fully live on Carequality ensures a patient's medical record will follow them, wherever they may go and whichever caregiver they may see,” John Beck, chief solutions officer at NextGen HealthCare, told HCB News.

The Carequality Framework is a national, vendor-agnostic network of networks. It enables the exchange and request of medical records between the over 10,000 participating organizations that represent 600,000 providers in the U.S.

“At NextGen Healthcare, it is our mission to help create a more interoperable healthcare system, with the ultimate goal of enabling better patient care and improved clinical outcomes,” said Beck.

He added that the NextGen Share interoperability platform is a natural fit to benefit members of the Carequality Framework because of its vendor-agnostic approach. The open platform currently connects more than one million caregivers.

The NextGen Share provider directory contains over 1.2 million unique addresses and, to date, over 70 million direct messages have been sent through the platform. Beck foresees that number growing due to the vast reach of the Carequality community.

“Our vision is to continue allowing providers the opportunity to focus on what matters most,” he added.

A few of the other members of the Carequality community are GE Healthcare, Epic, eClinicalWorks, athenahealth and Surescripts.
