Siemens Healthineers has received FDA clearance for the Magnetom Flow.Ace, a 1.5 tesla MR system designed with a closed helium circuit, eliminating the need for a quench pipe and reducing helium usage to just 0.7 liters.

The scanner marks the company's first helium-free 1.5T system and its first MR platform aimed at both general and veterinary radiology markets.

The Erlangen, Germany-based company said the scanner’s compact design and reduced infrastructure requirements could help lower installation and operating costs compared with conventional 1.5T MR systems, which typically require more than 1,000 liters of helium and dedicated emergency venting systems.
The system uses Siemens’ DryCool technology to minimize helium dependency and includes an Eco Power Mode that deactivates high-consumption components when idle, reducing energy use by over 30% compared to previous models, according to the company.

Image acquisition on the Magnetom Flow.Ace is powered by AI-based Deep Resolve software, which supports automated workflows, reduces noise, and enhances resolution—particularly useful for imaging small structures. The scanner has a 60 cm bore and supports a broad range of clinical MR applications.

“The 60 cm bore system is also available for veterinarians, with the same intelligent, high-end technology that we’ve offered to the general imaging community, at a highly attractive total cost of ownership,” said Katie Grant, head of magnetic resonance at Siemens Healthineers North America.

The system includes a range of flexible contour coils designed for both human and animal use. These high-density coils feature integrated BioMatrix Position Sensors to support automated patient setup and positioning. A full suite of dedicated coils for neuro and spine imaging is also available.

Magnetom Flow.Ace is Siemens Healthineers’ second MR system with a helium-saving design, following its earlier 0.55T Magnetom Free platform.
