Vandalia Health has confirmed plans to build a new neighborhood hospital in Bridgeport, West Virginia, following the official filing of a building permit with the City of Bridgeport.
The $26.5 million facility, to be named Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital, will be constructed within the Charles Pointe Crossing development.
The project is led by Mon Health System, a division of Vandalia Health, and has been in planning since 2022, when the organization filed for a Certificate of Need. According to the health system, the initiative is the result of collaboration with local partners, including the City of Bridgeport, Harrison County Commission, Genesis Partners, and entities involved in the area’s tax increment financing district.

The planned 40,000-square-foot hospital will feature emergency services and inpatient care on the first floor, with the second floor reserved for future clinical or administrative use. The facility is modeled after Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall, which opened in 2022.
Christopher Edwards, DO, who oversees emergency services for Mon Health System and serves as chief administrative officer for both the Mon Marion and Mon Harrison hospitals, described the Marion facility as a model for efficiency and patient satisfaction. “We’ve exceeded expectations in patient satisfaction, speed of care and operational efficiency,” Edwards said.
The Bridgeport facility will include 24/7 emergency services, eight emergency rooms, 10 private inpatient rooms, a pharmacy, and a full range of imaging services including CT, MR, ultrasound, and X-ray.
David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health System and executive vice president of Vandalia Health, noted the regional collaboration that supported the project. “Everyone came together with a shared vision to improve access to health care in Harrison County,” Goldberg said.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025 and take just over a year. Design and engineering phases are complete, and equipment procurement is underway.
