Davis Regional Psychiatric Hospital
Iredell Health System has announced its intent to acquire Davis Regional Psychiatric Hospital from subsidiaries of Community Health Systems. The agreement, effective as of August 16, is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalized this fall.

Davis Regional Psychiatric Hospital has a long history in Statesville, beginning in 1920 as a clinic founded by Dr. James Davis. The facility has undergone several ownership changes over the years, and transitioned from an acute care hospital to a behavioral health facility in 2022 to address the growing demand for mental health services.

John Green, president and CEO of Iredell Health System, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, "We are excited to bring these two Statesville traditions together as one single healthcare entity. Doing so will provide more comprehensive, local healthcare with the combined expertise — totaling over 170 years — of both organizations."

While future plans for the Davis facility are not yet finalized, Iredell Health System plans to maintain operations at the psychiatric hospital and retain its current employees. Green emphasized the importance of keeping these healthcare workers within the community. "Our first priority is to keep it open and sustainable," he said.

Iredell Health System, established in 1952, has grown into a significant healthcare provider in Iredell County. The acquisition aligns with its mission to address the evolving healthcare needs of the community, particularly in behavioral health. Green noted that adding additional healthcare services to the Davis facility may be considered in the future.
