GE HealthCare’s MIM Software introduces MR-guided prostate brachytherapy

GE HealthCare’s MIM Software has launched MIM Symphony HDR Prostate, an advanced solution to enhance high dose-rate (HDR) prostate brachytherapy by integrating MR guidance during live ultrasound procedures.

HDR brachytherapy, a procedure that implants radioactive sources into the prostate via needles, typically relies on CT or ultrasound imaging. Incorporating MR can reduce toxicity to critical structures, though aligning MR contours with live ultrasound images has been challenging.

The new solution aligns preoperative MR contours with live ultrasound, aiding precise needle placement by defining lesions, correcting orientation differences, and digitizing needles for review. The ReSlicer tool adjusts for orientation differences between MR and ultrasound images, further enhancing accuracy.
