Novant Health is opening its $180 million Ballantyne Medical Center on June 12 to patients.
Novant Health will open the doors on June 12 to its $180 million Ballantyne Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, providing patients with access to a 168,000-square-foot hospital and a 56,000-square-foot medical office building.

Novant Health officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 30 for the three-story community hospital, which will provide residents of southern Mecklenburg County with emergency and inpatient services, diagnostic and surgical care, maternity care, and various onsite specialty services, including women’s health, orthopedics, and cancer care.

The medical office building will provide access to outpatient imaging and specialty services, including a new breast imaging center with 3D mammography.

“We recognize that this is not only a growing region, but one that’s home to a diverse population that stretches across two states and ranges from young families to older adults, each with unique healthcare needs,” said Ben Brodersen, president and chief operating officer of the medical center, in a statement.

The hospital’s first floor has an emergency department equipped with two decontamination/isolation units, two trauma rooms, three psychiatric safe rooms, and a helicopter pad near the entrance. It also has rooms for CT, ultrasound, MR, X-ray, stress echocardiography, and nuclear medical imaging.

The second floor is for surgical and maternity care. The hospital already has 40 babies scheduled to be delivered in June, with eight mother-baby postpartum rooms set up for after-delivery care and recovery, as well as a C-section recovery suite with a nursery. A reservable hydrotherapy suite is also available for mothers in labor to soak in a warm tub and relax. The third floor has 36 inpatient beds.

Instead of white boards, the facility will use digital patient communication boards, a new feature for a Novant Health hospital in Charlotte, to provide patients and their families with real-time updates on pain management, team members on duty, food, expected discharge dates, educational videos about each individual patient’s care, and other important facts.

Novant Health is made up of 15 medical centers and over 1,800 physicians in over 800 locations, catering to patients in North Carolina and South Carolina. It also has outpatient surgery centers, medical plazas, rehabilitation programs, diagnostic imaging centers, and community health outreach programs.
