Susan Turney named MGMA chief
by Brendon Nafziger, DOTmed News Associate Editor | July 12, 2011
The Medical Group Management Association and its credentialing and standards-setting body, the American College of Medical Practice Executives, said Monday they picked Dr. Susan Turney to be their new president and CEO.
Turney, a fellow with the ACMPE and former MGMA board chair, will take over for Dr. William F. Jessee, who retires in September. Jessee, who led MGMA for 12 years, prompted a year-long search for a replacement after announcing his retirement plans in March 2010.
Turney served as MGMA board chair from 2005 to 2006, and became an ACMPE fellow in 2005. She has also played a leading role in the Wisconsin health care world, serving as CEO and executive vice president of the Wisconsin Medical Society and co-founding the Wisconsin Health Information Organization.
In addition to running a clinical practice, she also acted as medical director for patient financial services at the Marshfield Clinic.
