Relying on evidence-based practices as a guide for clinical decisions can cut down on administrative costs and ensure the delivery of the most efficient and quality care. ITA Partners offers a tool called eviti, which is driven by an evidence-based regimen library of close to 1,000 treatment regimens. To use the tool, providers enter certain patient diagnosis and insurance information. The program then returns a display of evidence-based regimens that also comply with that patient’s insurance policy language, cutting out the uncertainties tied to reimbursement.

The evidence-based program eliminates the cost of additional staff, such as specialized nurses or claims specialists, who spend a lot of time on the phone, advocating for payment with the payers. Eviti issues “an eviti code, signifying the treatment that’s being prescribed does in fact meet the insurer’s plan’s language for that patient and standards of care for that disease itself,” says Beruff.

Tools that encompass evidence-based practices into the clinical decision support for providers are sure to become predominant in the current health care environment, says Beruff, as emphasis on quality and efficiency take center stage.

“Unless quality care is provided from the beginning, we’re going to have serious systemic issues, if we are providing inappropriate care for the additional 32 million people who come into the system,” says Beruff. “We’ve got to have as a necessity, quality care from the get-go. That’s a precondition for successful reform.”
