Oxford Instruments Promotes Freund

Tom Freund

Mike Martin, president of Oxford Instruments, recently announced the promotion of Tom Freund to the role of general manager, OI MRI Service. Tom started his career in the medical equipment industry with Oxford in January 1986. He started as Senior Test Technician, moving to Field Service Engineer, then onto Service Training Manager in 1998. Two years later, he was named Strategic Accounts Manager and in 2005 he was promoted to Director, MRI Service.

Freund joined Oxford as an engineer trained in electrical technology. He pursued a career in health care for two reasons. "I felt the industry would be stable and supportive of a long-term career. I also was proud to be a part of an industry that helps to make a positive difference. I remember early in my career seeing a sign on a piece of equipment that said 'This is another piece of equipment that will help to save lives,'" Freund said.

He hopes his elevated responsibilities in his new position will help him to grow the business. "The company has given me a lot and I want to continue to give back and to keep providing the high quality service that Oxford has been known for," he said.

It's apparent that the company has given him a lot -- a career, room for advancement and quite a bit more. It has been during his time with Oxford that Tom's personal title changed from "bachelor" to "husband." He explained, "When I arrived at Oxford for my job interview, the very first person I met, I ended up marrying." And like his continued career at Oxford, that decision was a good one. Tom and his wife Karen will be celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary next April.
