The Siemens Dade Dimension ARx
The Siemens Dade Dimension ARX clinical chemistry system is a discrete, random-access, microprocessor-controlled, integrated instrument/chemistry system that measures a variety of analytes, including enzyme activities, in body fluids.containers, some of which require adapters. Multiple tests can be requested from a single sample. The sample containers are placed into segments, which the operator loads into the sample area of the instrument. The operator also places Flex reagent cartridges into the autoloader, which moves them into the reagent tray. When processing begins, several events take place. The IMT probe performs a level sense (on sample tube) or level detect (on sample cups and SSCs) to determine if adequate volume is present for the requested tests. If the reagent to be used requires hydration, the Flex cartridge is moved into a position where R2 reagent probe performs the necessary preparation by ultrasonically fragmenting tablets and aspirating and dispensing liquids as required. The cuvette area manufactures one cuvette every 7.2 seconds. The reagent tray moves the appropriate reagent cartridge into position for access by the R1 reagent arm. The sample probe aspirates sample from the container and dispenses it into the cuvette. The R1 probe aspirates reagent from the Flex cartridge and dispenses it into the cuvette. Urine tests are automatically diluted. The IMT probe aspirates sample from the container and dispenses it with water into the aliquot wheel. The sample probe aspirates sample from the aliquot wheel and dispenses it to the cuvette. To prevent carryover, the Siemens Dade Dimension ASX’s probes are rinsed in their respective drains after each aspiration and dispensing action. If a test is programmed for automatic dilution when it exceeds linearity, the system reruns the test with the sample probe dispensing water and sample into the cuvette. The cuvette is warmed in the thermal chamber where the chemical reaction takes place. The photometer measures the wavelengths of the cuvette contents and the system translates the absorbance into the concentration reported on the results printout. When processing of all samples in a segment are complete, the operator can remove the segment and load a new one without interrupting processing of other segments/samples. Used cuvettes move into the waste container.
Siemens Dade Dimension ARx IMT System:
The IMT system processes electrolyte tests. The IMT probe aspirates sample from the container and dispenses as a 1:10 dilution into the IMT port. The diluted sample travels through tubing from the port to the QuikLYTE multisensor tower. At the tower, the multisensor measures Na, K, and Cl. The IMT pump then moves the sample to the TCO2 mixer where it is mixed with TCO2 release agent, then measured by the TCO2 electrode.

• Water must have from 5–7 ppm dissolved air.
Waste Requirements:
Liquid Waste Output: 0.85 gal. /hr. (3.2 L/hr.) maximum throughput A 11.5-ft (3.5-m) maximum discharge height (3 – 4-ft typical [1 – 1.9-m]) A 50-ft (15.2-m) tubing is supplied for external waste disposal. Maintenance of the waste tubing from the instrument to the disposal point is the responsibility of the user. The disposal point should be selected in accordance with local hazardous waste guidelines.
Electrical Installation Requirements:
Power Requirements:
• Line Voltage:
Each instrument uses a single cord. 115 VAC ± 10 V, 60 Hz, single phase, 20-amp service is required for each instrument.
• Circuit:
The instrument should have a separate, dedicated line with Hot, Neutral, and Isolated Ground in its own conduit. The conduit should start at the distribution panel and be continuous to the receptacle. Three-wire distribution to the receptacle is required for each instrument. The third (green) ground wire should start at the distribution panel and be continuous to the receptacle in accordance with NEC paragraph 250-74, exception 4, unless local codes prohibit. The ground wire should not be tied to grounds from other loads.
• Wire Size:
10 AWG wire is required to minimize the voltage drop between the distribution panel and the receptacle when each instrument operates at full current load.
• Receptacle:
The site must provide a Hubbell receptacle No. IG-8310 for installation by the hospital electrician before the instrument arrives. The receptacle must be accessible to the 9-ft (2.7-m) power cord furnished with the instrument.
• Electromagnetic Radiation:
Do not locate the instrument within 50 ft. (15 m) in any direction of an electromagnetic radiation source such as diathermy apparatus.
