Banner Health has announced a significant leadership transition as Peter S. Fine, who has served as the president and chief executive officer since 2000, will retire on June 30. Amy Perry, currently the president of Banner Health, will step into the role of president and chief executive officer.
Under Fine's leadership, Banner Health has evolved from its origins as a hospital system into a fully integrated health care enterprise, achieving national recognition. Fine, who was instrumental in the organization's development shortly after its formation, will continue to offer his expertise as CEO Emeritus until January 2025.
Amy Perry joined Banner Health in November 2021 as president and chief operating officer. Her leadership was particularly notable during the challenging periods of the COVID-19 pandemic and the organization's subsequent recovery. Perry has been commended for her focus on a team-based, people-first culture and her efforts to enhance service quality, expand access, and improve affordability in health care.
Anne Mariucci, chair of the Banner Board of Directors, expressed confidence in Perry's vision for the future, highlighting her technology-forward, people-centered approach aimed at improving patient care and community service. Perry herself emphasized the organization's commitment to transforming health care access and affordability, leveraging technology and innovation.
The board expressed gratitude toward Fine for his 24 years of service, during which he positioned Banner Health as a leader in the health care sector. They also acknowledged his continued involvement in ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
Banner Health, a nonprofit entity with a revenue of $14.1 billion in 2023, operates across six states with over 55,000 staff members. The system includes 30 acute-care and three rehab hospitals, and extends its services through academic partnerships, notably with the University of Arizona.
As Perry prepares to take the helm, her strategy includes advancing Banner's mission to simplify health care and enhance life quality, ensuring it remains at the forefront of innovation and care excellence.
