A truck crash near Saginaw, Michigan has destroyed a $4 million medical device used to help identify cancer in patients and locate tumors for radiation therapy.

The PET/CT unit, being transported by tractor-trailer, was involved in a collision with a pickup truck that was traveling in slippery conditions. The machine erupted into flames as the rig overturned.

It was owned by Alliance-HNI Health Care Services of Owosso, which services more than 40 Michigan medical facilities.

The Saginaw News reports the machine was being taken on its weekly trip to West Branch Regional Medical Center about 60 miles north of Saginaw.
