New York Methodist Hospital Unveils Advanced Women's Imaging and Prenatal Testing Center

by Joan Trombetti, Writer | August 11, 2008
New York Methodist Hospital recently introduced its newly constructed Advanced Women's Imaging and Prenatal Testing Center at a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Guests at the event toured the new Center and learned about the comprehensive range of updated programs that the Center provides. These services include prenatal testing, breast imaging and ultrasound, gynecological ultrasound, bone densitometry, and a genetic screening and counseling program. "The Advanced Women's Imaging and Prenatal Testing Center is a state-of-the-art facility with all of the latest medical equipment brought together under one roof," said Mark J. Mundy, president and CEO of NYM, to event attendees. The brand new space possesses the necessary technology for prevention and early detection of illnesses and medical conditions that impact women of all ages.

One program is the Center's breast imaging and ultrasound program, which uses mammography to screen for breast cancer. The majority of new breast cancers are diagnosed as a result of an abnormality seen on a mammogram. Mammograms are read, on-site, by one of the Center's board certified radiologists. The procedure, which takes about five minutes, can help ensure early detection of cancer, which greatly increases the chance of a successful recovery. "Breast cancer claims the lives of 12,000 women in New York City each year," said Marty Markowitz. "Early detection of the disease gives women the greatest opportunity to lead a full and healthy life."

Patients may be referred to the Center by their obstetricians, gynecologists or other physicians. To make an appointment at New York Methodist Hospital's Advanced Women's Imaging and Prenatal Testing Center, call (718) 780-5799.
