A federal jury has awarded Medtronic Inc. $250 million in a patent dispute with medical device rival Boston Scientific Corp.
In a May 16th decision, a jury in Marshall, Texas, found that Boston Scientific infringed on three Medtronic patents covering technology to implant heart stents used in artery-clearing surgery and dismissed one claim brought on by Medtronic.
Boston Scientific plans to raise defenses that were not heard previously before a judge on July 31. If these defenses do not set aside the verdict, the company is planning try to overturn the ruling in post-trial motions or will appeal if necessary.
