Supply and maintenance of 190 diagnostic imaging and cardiology items are included in a deal struck between Siemens Canada Limited Healthcare (Siemens Healthcare) and William Osler Health System, one of Canada's largest community hospital systems.

A statement from Siemens indicates that this is the single largest Canadian contract the company has ever received. The equipment covered in the deal includes CT scanners, MR systems, ultrasound modalities, breast imaging and X-ray equipment, angiography solutions, as well as molecular imaging equipment.

The Managed Equipment Service (MES) contract will last for 15 years and has been estimated at a value of about $154 million. It is the first MES contract for Siemens ever in North America, and it extends to three community hospitals, (one of which is currently under construction) located in Brampton and Etobicoke, Ontario.

"We are excited to partner with Siemens over the next 15 years and achieve an exciting international and Canadian first with their organization," said Joanne Flewwelling, executive vice president, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive at William Osler Health System, in a statement.

"One of Osler's key areas of focus is on building partnerships that will have long-term, positive impacts on the community we serve. Our work with Siemens will help position us to be on the leading edge in so many of the services and programs we provide through the sustainable use of innovative medical imaging equipment."

As part of the agreement, Siemens will be required to provide financing solutions, ongoing education and training — as well as on-site clinical support.
