Celebrate X-ray's sweet 116th

This week kicks off the National Radiologic Technology Week, a seven-day celebration of the workers who make medical imaging possible.

The annual tradition runs this year from Nov. 6-12, and falls on the 116th anniversary of the discovery of the X-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen.

Roentgen made his revolutionary discovery on Nov. 8, 1895.

This year's theme, "One Goal, One Passion: R.T.s Joined in Patient Care," shows the "true spirit of R.T.s," Dawn McNeil, president of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, which launched NRTW in 1979, said in a statement.

"Taking care of our patients and making sure they receive the lowest radiation dose possible during medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures is the primary goal of every R.T.," she said.

In honor of rad techs, this week ASRT is offering discounts on a continuing education course and has offered to review live lecture continuing education activities presented this week for free.
