Gerry Durney was named chief operating officer and executive vice president of Bon Secours Charity Health System, a hospital network in southern New York.

In his role, Durney also oversees the daily operations of Good Samaritan Hospital, a 370-bed nonprofit regional medical center in Suffern, N.Y, one of the three hospitals in the network.

Durney joined Bon Secours in October 2009 as senior vice president for surgical and ancillary services. Previously, he served as vice president of Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.

The appointment was made in April, just after Philip A. Patterson, the previous COO, was promoted to CEO of the system.

"It's actually been energizing, very rewarding," Durney said of his first year in his new role. "I'm working in a great place with many fantastic people."

The health system also includes Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis and St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, two long-term care centers and an assisted living facility. Around 2,500 people work for the system, with nearly 1,000 physicians holding privileges at the network's health centers.
