The Erba / Drew XL2280 uses mufti-dimensional optical light scattering using a stable laser diode light source and hydrodynamic focusing to optimize the measurement of WBC differential, ensuring accurate and repeatable results. Impedance Technology is used for counting of WBC, RBC, Plt and sizing of Plt & RBC; this is combined with optical absorbance of cyanmethemoglobin for hemoglobin measurement (optional cyan-free).

Erba XL2280 Quality Control
A comprehensive onboard QC package enables optimal monitoring of system performance. The XL2280 stores up to 12QC lots with 3 levels each. QC values can be loaded via keyboard, disk or USB key. A log of QC data with automatic calculation of mean, SD, CV and can be viewed and printed. QC data can be viewed in a monthly Levey-Jennings chart. Bull’s moving average can also be viewed and printed. For comparison with other systems, the system can be enrolled in a peer review program.

Erba XL2280 Sample Handling
The XL2280 analyzes blood samples collected in EDTA tubes. The system may be used in either direct sample mode or with an optional 30-position closed tubes sampler. The autosampler continually mixes, reads bar-code (option), pierces tube cap and automatically aspirates sample. Whole blood sample size is dependent upon mode: 180 μL in Direct Sample Mode / 90 μL in Sample Saver Mode / 180 μL using Auto-sampler.

Erba XL 2280 Dilution System
In order to maximize performance and reduce instrument downtime, a high-precision ceramic shear valve and computer-controlled reagent dispenser are used. Automatic rinse inside and outside of the sample probe prevents carryover and reduces risk of transmission of blood born pathogens to operators.

Erba XL 2280 Software
The robust XL2280 software is easy to use, giving rapid access to all patient information including full blood counts, demographics, and patient history.

Continuous feedback of system operation is provided by a full range of diagnostics alerts.

The system has user programmable automatic startup and shutdown procedures. A maintenance log is available which records all the routine maintenance operations such as start-up, shutdown, reagent replacement, controls,
calibration and more.

A full demographic database is integrated, capable of storing up to 100,000 results with scattergrams and histograms, the system allows input of sample ID, PID, name, gender, date of birth, and comments. LIS-compatible using ASTM or proprietary transfer protocols.
